SAN FRANCISCO --January 7, 2003 -- PowerLogix today announced several new CPU upgrades for various Macintosh models, extending its industry lead with the most extensive announcement of CPU upgrades ever, and the most complete lineup in the marketplace.

First and foremost, is the PowerForce Dual G4 1.2GHz for PowerMac G4s (from AGP to QuickSilver 2002 models.) The PowerForce Dual G4 1.2GHz is the fastest CPU upgrade ever for any Macintosh. PowerLogix continues to be the only manufacturer of high-end dual G4 upgrades. PowerLogix also pledges continued support for the PowerMac G4 Cube with dual processors, which now include a revised DC board to support the additional power demands of twin CPUs. (We intend to offer the dual 1.2GHz in the Cube if it is feasible, although at this time we are officially supporting a maximum of dual 1GHz for the Cube, pending final testing.)

PowerLogix also announced the PowerForce G4 Series 233 single processor upgrade, available in speeds of 800MHz, 1GHz, and 1.2GHz. The Series 233 cards are compatible with all PowerMac G4s from the AGP to QuickSilver 2002, including the Cube; supporting both 100 and 133MHz bus speeds.

PowerLogix leads the market in high-end G4 designs, shipping more than two times longer, and with three circuit boards now shipping; two more designs than anyone else in the market.

All the PowerForce G4 Series models feature 2Mb of L3 cache per processor for maximum performance. The L3 cache is SDR technology as DDR is unnecessary and provides no performance advantage, as shown in our previously published White Paper.

PowerLogix is also proud to announce the highest performance for older PowerMacs, by introducing the fastest ever ZIF upgrade. Compatible with the PowerMac G3 Beige, Blue and White, and original PCI PowerMac G4, the economical PowerMac G3 800 ZIF features an IBM 750FX running at 800MHz with 512K of cache running at a blazing 800MHz. Its great performance at a very economical price will be sure to please many owners of these machines who have been desiring faster CPU performance for some time. The vast majority of mainstream applications still do not take advantage of Altivec, and therefore having greater clock speed for tasks that are used most often will extend the life of these machines well into the future. (Faster G4 ZIFs, although theoretically possible, are impractical due to the extensive and costly engineering required to design around a motherboard chipset incompatibility on these machines. This incompatibility was first discovered by PowerLogix engineers 18 months ago, presented to and confirmed by Motorola.)

But we aren't done yet with new products. PowerLogix is also proud to announce the first ever software-controlled, variable speed CPU upgrade. Available for the PowerBook G3 Pismo (aka Firewire or PowerBook G3 2000), the Blue Chip G3 800 Pismo can be adjusted instantly 'on the fly' (i.e., no reboot required) to a lower clock speed in order to extend battery life. PowerLogix includes an easy to use software utility for this purpose. Tests show that up to 30 minutes of additional battery life can be obtained by lowering the clock speed, which can be very useful in certain situations, such as long plane flights. In many cases, such as spreadsheet or word processing, sheer clock speed takes a back seat to battery life, and in the Blue Chip G3 800 Pismo offers the best of both worlds. The clock speed is user adjustable from 300 to 800 MHz. The Blue Chip G3 800 also features the IBM 750FX, with 512K of L2 cache at 800MHz.

Last but not least, PowerLogix also announced the PowerForce G3 800 for PCI PowerMacs, the first economical, yet high speed upgrade for these older machines. The IBM 750FX is also featured on this model.

Availability: 1.2GHz models shipping in 1-2 weeks. PowerForce G3 800 ZIF, Blue Chip G3 800 Pismo, and PowerForce G3 800 shipping in 2-3 weeks.

Pricing: pricing will be available on the PowerLogix website on January 7, 2003.
