PowerLogix is the only manufacturer of next generation
G3 750FX (click
here for technical specs on the 750FX), and 750GX (click
here for technical specs on the 750GX) for the PowerBook
G3 "Pismo."
The Blue Chip G3 Pismo for PowerBook G3 FireWire (aka "Pismo")
laptops provides the processing power of the PowerPC 750FX
or GX G3 chip to give your PowerBook G3 "Pismo" never
before seen performance for a fraction of the cost of a
new PowerBook G4. Tests
show the BlueChip G3 Pismo 900 outperforms the G4 500MHz
even in applications that use Altivec. Add the advantage
of "on the fly" CPU speed reduction to save battery
life, and it is no wonder we sold the G3/900 by a margin
of 4:1 over the G4/500; that is, until we discontinued the
G4. :)
We have many customers ask us if there will be faster G4s
for Pismo in the future. The answer is no, due to the fact
that the G4/7410 @ 500 MHz is the fastest pin compatible
G4 upgrade for the Pismo that Motorola will ever produce.
The faster G4s (7455s and 7457s) are much larger chips and
they are not pin compatible, so they cannot be added to
the Pismo CPU card by a chip swap. So if you want your Pismo
to operate at the fastest possible speed, the G3 is the
way to go.
Customer
testimonials:
"Got
the 900 MHz PPC 750FX upgrade installed. Excellent performance
boost!
Here
are my Xbench results (using 512 Mb of RAM):
Original
G500MHz G3, total Xbench = 27.51
New
900 MHz PPC 750FX, total Xbench = 54.43
Essentially
double the speed! Best upgrade board I've ever bought.
Thanks
again!!" - Dan Blumenfeld
"Hello
It arrived here safely.
And I set it up to my PISMO.
It was super great!
Thanks!!
Everything seemed to be running so fast more than I expected.
I didn't ever think that OS-X goes such a high speed on PISMO.
It is amazing!
Again, thanks for your quick arrangement.
ARIGATO!

Note: The BlueChip G3 Pismo is a
service that PowerLogix
provides which upgrades your G3 400 or G3 500 to a G3 900
MHz. This involves sending your processor card to us where
your CPU is swapped. This special remanufacturing process
is handled by a local Austin firm known around the world
as experts in this process. You must have a working CPU
module in your machine prior to ordering.
If your current processor card is experiencing cache issues,
the G3 900MHz may solve your problems as the original cache
circuit on the CPU card is no longer used with the 750FX
or GX CPU; instead, the on-chip L2 is used.
Turn-around from the day we receive your CPU card is about
5 business days, although it somtimes takes longer. Note:
this process will technically void any AppleCare warranty
if it is still in effect. In the case of warranty service,
PowerLogix warrants the processor card for one year. Apple
service techs are trained to do module exchanges, not chip
swaps; in practice AppleCare warranty service other than
the processor card should not be affected but we cannot
guarantee this.
